Welcome to the official developer reference manual for the PUNT Compliance-as-Code Workflow engine. This guide documents the process specifications, variable types, task steps, event patterns, and REST endpoints.

Process Specifications

A Punt process specification defines a compliance graph. Specs are declared in JSON format containing workflow variables, execution steps, conditional gates, and worker tasks.

1. Variables

Variables store session state during runtime. Supported types are STRING, BOOLEAN, and NUMBER. Variables can be flagged as masked (confidential data like SSN/TIN) or searchable.

2. Steps & Task Types

Steps are task operations queued for distributed workers. Task types determine the execution route. For example: run-ofac-check, compare-to-portfolio, and create-compliance-alert.

REST API Endpoint Reference

POST /api/runs

Launches an asynchronous run instance of a process spec. Expects body: {"spec_name": "ofac-portfolio-check", "variables": {"client-name": "...", "portfolio-id": "..."}}

GET /api/runs/<run_id>

Checks the status, state variables, and real-time StreamSense event logs for the specified workflow run.

GET /api/tasks

Worker poll endpoint. Distributed workers query this endpoint every second to claim scheduled tasks waiting for execution.

POST /api/tasks/<task_id>/complete

Submits execution outputs back to the coordinator. Body: {"status": "COMPLETED", "result": true}

StreamSense Event Ledger

All process operations generate structured StreamSense audit log events, securing immutable records of actions:

WF_STARTED: Logged when a new workflow run begins execution.
TASK_SCHEDULED: Logged when a step's logical dependency conditions are met and queued.
TASK_STARTED: Logged when a worker claims a task queue item.
VAR_UPDATED: Logged whenever a state variable updates.
WF_COMPLETED: Logged when all steps are completed and results are compiled.
